Between Hell and Texas

Cray Dawson, a drover, avenged the death of his lover, Rosa, and is now seen as a gunman by the rest of the West. He desperately seeks to escape his reputation, so he returns home for peace and quiet, only to find it no longer exists for him. James Jenner reads the narrative in a drawl that is like the sway of a walking horse. The dialogue is more fluid but never loses its stiffness, working well to characterize ranchers and gunmen who seldom talk.
