McNaught's novel is a pleasureful mix of action, romance, and suspense. Leigh Kendall is a famous actress who is badly injured in an accident on her way to meet her husband at their winter hideaway. Not only doesn't she make it to the cabin, but her husband cannot be found. The rest is all taken care of by Barbara Rosenblat. She's in command of the complete cast, steering them through their roles in plot and subplots. Her men have a sinister sound that gives them a shady quality where it might not be called for.
