Ruby Kincaid, recently widowed, is capable of single-handedly killing a rattlesnake, running her rural Texas bowling alley, and raising the children her daughter left behind when she disappeared four years ago. But when her daughter's pretty face appears in a television commercial, Ruby hauls the grandkids to LA to find her. Narrator Peggity Price injects charm and humor into the eventful journey and conveys Ruby's gentle fortitude.
