Young Griffin doesn't like the dark. Every night the dark "made his toes curl up/ and his hands grow cold/ and his heart beat fast/ and his legs turn to jelly." So Griffin turns on every light in his room and snuggles up with his teddy bear. When his mother calls to him to turn out the lights, Griffin longs to have someone stay with him so he won't be afraid of the dark. His mother tells him that God, who is bigger than either Griffin's mother or father, "can fit in your room, fit in your bed, fit in you!" That night Griffin feels God's presence in his room and sleeps peacefully, no longer afraid of the dark. Munger's soft, fuzzy watercolors feature undefined characters that don't serve the text. Higgs (The Sunflower Parable) weaves Bible verses into the story to remind children of God's presence. Ages 2-6.
