Artists in Crime

After meeting during an ocean cruise, Inspector Roderick Alleyn encounters a young artist again when she becomes the suspect in the murder of a model. Marsh's sixth mystery featuring Alleyn is a great story on its own merits, made more significant by the fact that the young artist in question is Agatha Troy, who would remain a part of the series--first as Alleyn's friend and lover, then as his wife--for the remaining 26 books. Terry Wilton's reading is rich and colorful. Although he pronounces the lead character's name differently than Marsh did, he brings to life a rich cast of characters from various nationalities and backgrounds and vividly evokes the world of England between the wars.
