Handknitted sweaters are a luxury-both in the yarns purchased to knit them and in the long hours devoted to the project. Thus, when that sweater you lovingly made for your husband or boyfriend ends up in the bottom of a drawer, it may be enough to end a beautiful relationship. Manning, a well-known knitwear designer with a background in apparel design and fiber arts, says that the trick in producing a garment your man will actually wear is involving him in the planning and knitting process. The first half of the book is devoted to just that: defining the man's personal style; choosing fibers, colors, and a pattern he will wear; and making adjustments based on his body type and the fit he prefers. The second portion of the book consists of a pattern collection of pullovers, vests, and cardigans, most in sizes from small to extra large. Designs for men's sweaters are rare in knitting magazines and books, so this should be a popular acquisition for public libraries.
