Life coach Whitman presents an earnest yet far-fetched guide to attracting success through the power of one’s own mind. Using her “universal principles” for attraction and success, she claims to have dug herself out of a miserable job and increased her salary exponentially. She describes the “metaphysical practices” that underlie the “law of deliberate creation”: directing energy toward something will result in attracting it. All of this is intended to help readers achieve their destiny and fullest potential, which is a theme throughout; much is made of identifying a purpose that will lend meaning to both professional and personal life. There are shades of The Secret here, backed up by the author’s own “law of sufficiency and abundance,” which reassures readers that everything they need to succeed is already inside them. While the emphasis on goal-seeking and -pursuing is well-taken, the sections on “visioning” and adjusting personal “energy” come off as hokey and disconnected from reality. Readers looking for encouragement—“You and your life are unlimited. YOU are a beautiful, blessed being”—will find it, but unaccompanied by concrete guidance.
