Moving to a regimen of holistic health, one in which body, mind, spirit, and the environment are in sync, demands a shift in mindset and no small amount of kitchen reorganizing and pantry re-selection to achieve. Certified holistic nutritionist Rodriguez and wellness educator Kurdyla introduce their women's-health operation from a foodie viewpoint; chapters detail the philosophy, the apothecary, the tools, and the optional pantry, along with 100-plus recipes, both familiar and not. Though the ""gourmet"" portion of the authors' approach explores three dimensions--digestion, mind, balance of stress and reproductive/hormone health--much of the critical wellness narrative occurs within the sidebars: belly yoga, the concept of three-season eating, the notion of gratitude reflection, and various other ayurvedic exercises. Recipes are laden with photographs as well as introductory stories, with dishes ranging from simple (bliss bites, PMS smoothie) to more complex (super seed squares, spiced fig and cherry compote). The bottom line? "When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use. When diet is correct, medicine is of no need." Resources include suggested ingredients and herbal supplies.
