Katherine Hill, a glamorous, slightly neurotic, and undeniably successful cosmetics executive, has become firmly entrenched in her workaholic ways. Her days, hours, and minutes are tightly scheduled, leaving very little time for personal commitments. When she receives word that Luella Hancock, a beloved old neighbor, has passed away, Katherine's surprised to find that she and her former best friend, Laney, have both been named in Luella's will. A trip back to Manchester, Vermont, is long overdue, but Katherine has no idea which old friends, lost loves, and buried memories await her. Liebert's debut offers a glimpse into the decades-long friendship between two women, sometimes stretched thin by circumstances and tough choices but ultimately enduring. Studding the central narrative with flashbacks into the early days of Katherine and Laney's friendship allows Liebert to paint the fullest possible portraits of the two central characters. Liebert's authorial voice is light and airy, and she has a knack for crafting realistic, witty dialogue. An emotionally honest novel, full of nostalgia for old friendships, the struggle of reconciliation, and the everlasting power of female friendship.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2013, American Library Association.)
