In this sequel to her 2017 debut, Becoming Bonnie, Walsh finishes the story of Bonnie and Clyde, once again told though Bonnie's eyes. Clyde's release from a prison farm leaves him with some goals: to break out the fellow prisoner who took the blame for Clyde's killing his convict assailant, to buy land to start life fresh with Bonnie, and to never go back to prison again. Needing money for his plans, Clyde and a colleague rob a bank in Lawrence, Kansas, starting a 27-month crime spree across the U.S. that will end disastrously. While auto thefts are commonplace during this spree, with Clyde partial to Fords, murders are not; here they are described as either accidental or defensive, although Bonnie?who shoots but doesn't kill?regrets the widows and children left behind. Even knowing what will happen, readers are likely to wish the devoted pair well before they're given up by a former partner in crime, when Clyde Barrow is 25 and Bonnie Parker 23. Moving historical fiction that vividly portrays the life and times of Bonnie and Clyde.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2018, American Library Association.)
