Mention great NBA teams over the past 20 years, and the conversation invariably will include the Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Lakers. Their common denominator? Both were star-led teams coached by Phil Jackson. The Zen master's book is half-memoir, half-coaching strategies. Matt Walton's narration is easygoing; he has a pleasant, comfortable tone, just like Jackson's persona. The author peppers his work with parables and metaphors from a variety of sources, including religion and philosophy. Walton carries it all, steady in his approach regardless of whether the author is talking about his upbringing, his family, coaching, dealing with selfish personalities, or simply offering advice.
