Aging movie star Cooper Winslow sees no reason to limit his lavish lifestyle, not even to accommodate his severely reduced income. When Coop's accountant insists he rent out portions of his huge estate, the new tenants provide much more than rent. David Garrison takes the predictable plot in hand, extracting maximum entertainment value from the text. His male characters spring to life, particularly the urbane, but kind Cooper Winslow. Females come through competently, though they're indistinguishable one from another. Tying the whole together is a narration of lively pace and clear, unstilted enunciation. Garrison treats the story as the escape novel it is. But what a fun way to escape! R.P.L. (c) AudioFile 2003, Portland, Maine

Vast wealth amid the glitter and glamour of Hollywood sets the stage for Danielle Steel to interweave lives and romance in one of her best novels yet. Narrator David Garrison's masculine, melodious voice delivers an outstanding portrayal of Cooper Winslow, an impoverished, aging movie star. Garrison adds charisma and depth to each character, including the women, particularly the servant girl, Paloma. To sustain The Cottage, an elaborate mansion, Winslow takes on three tenants, who stretch the patience of each character. This well-done story will carry you all the way to the end, then make you wish for more. G.D.W. (c) AudioFile 2002, Portland, Maine
