Charles Lindberg's first clash with FDR came when the president took the air-mail service from the commercial airlines and gave it to the Army. Lindberg's protests forced the White House to revise its action, causing a lasting animosity between the two famous Americans. The feud reignited when Hitler threatened Europe, and Lindberg preached isolationism, contrary to Roosevelt's hawkish inclinations. Narrator Tom Weiner's sonorous voice establishes a pace some might say goes too fast, but he can do it without dropping a word or losing the listener. Weiner adds spark to nonfiction by making it move along, maybe faster than many listeners would do with a printed page. Weiner's narration adds greatly to our enjoyment of another New Deal war.
