After interviewing more than 1,000 people aged 65 and older about aging, Stroh (Univ. of California, Santa Cruz; Trust Rules: How To Tell the Good Guys from the Bad Guys in Work and Life) and Brees (The Everything Health Guide to Depression) compiled their responses in this book to help readers understand the dramatic physical, emotional, and psychological changes that accompany getting older. There are negatives, such as the loss of friends and agility, but these are outweighed by the positives of watching grandchildren mature and the evolution of one's faith. The authors maintain that many of the favorable aspects can be accentuated by reaching out to others, staying fit, and learning from our mistakes. VERDICT A realistic yet optimistic guide to the "golden" years.
