A century before I began typing this page, battery-powered electric automobiles were abundant, Black writes. Edison and Ford were among the innovators swept aside. The railroads were abandoned. General Motors bought up trolley companies, closed them down, and then sold buses to fill the gap. "This book is not about green," writes Black, "it is about greed." Stephen Hoye doesn't just get angry, he stays angry for 15-and-a-half hours.
