Stolberg's (Painkillers, 2016) single volume covers everything anyone could need to know about attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), whether it's symptoms, treatment protocols, or pharmaceuticals. In keeping with the other books in the Story of a Drug series, ADHD Medications begins with a fictional case study, followed by a detailed overview of the drug classes used to treat the disorder, including the other types of conditions these various medicines are intended to treat. Subsequent chapters go into the history of the drugs, the manner in which they work in the body, side effects, misuse and abuse, production and distribution, regulation, social perception of ADHD drugs, and the future of treatment. The volume concludes with a directory of resources, a glossary, a detailed bibliography of print resources, and a serviceable index. The prose is often quite technical, especially when discussing the impact of the drugs and the ways in which they work. A valuable resource for those wanting detailed, scientific information, this text is best suited to college and university library collections.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2018, American Library Association.)
