Associated with the Irish literary renaissance alongside W.B. Yeats and J.M. Synge, O'Connor is best known for his short stories and memoirs. Barnes (Arthur & George) curates an impressive collection of O'Connor's fiction and nonfiction, organized by theme (e.g., war, childhood, Ireland). Barnes's introductory prefaces offer just enough context for each section without overwhelming O'Connor's text. Verdict Barnes does an excellent job of presenting O'Connor's most important works and ideas in a single volume. His decision to structure the book thematically will allow literature students and professors deeper insight into O'Connor's oeuvre.-Deborah Hicks, Univ. of Alberta Libs., Edmonton
