Wishes and Tears

Janet Slater will always regret her indiscretion the night of Queen Elizabeth's coronation, but never its result. The search for her illegitimate daughter consumes 25 years of her life. Having found her, Janet learns just what pain a blessing can bring. Nadia May excels in just this type of light romantic story, and brings all her skills to the fore. While her male characters sometimes blur into each other in vocal characteristics, her strong and not always nice women take on clear lives and personalities even beyond the text. A suffering cancer patient and a mean old woman each get the treatment they deserve, while Janet proves herself both sympathetic and frustrating, in other words, totally believable. R.P.L.
