The Witness at the Wedding

I didn't tell you there's a history of murder in my fiancée's family. An offhand remark from Carole Seddon's son before his wedding provides the perfect opening to this British mystery. Simon Brett reads that line, and many others, with a droll humor that emphasizes the comic observations in his writing. The murders are seen from the perspective of Carole Seddon, a slightly snobbish Home Office retiree who is fascinated by crime. Brett's voices reveal the edges of his characters, as Carole sourly recalls her failed marriage or an ex-con twists under questioning by Carole and her friend Jude.
