British actress Joanna David quickly captivates listeners with her deft narration of this skillfully abridged classic. David's quietly commanding performance introduces Brontë many characters in memorable ways that ensure our loyalty lies deeply with the orphaned, mistreated Jane. Her narration invites listeners to experience firsthand the spirited heroine's wide range of emotions. Like Jane, we recoil at unforgiving Mrs. Reed's harsh and unfair punishments, feel relief at her escape to Thornfield to work as a governess, suffer with her over the confusing yet attractive Rochester's behavior, and delight in her hard-won happiness. Even those who know the story well will catch new resonances in this fine performance. J.C.G. (c) AudioFile 2007, Portland, Maine

pielove567 - I really liked it. It's about this girl who's parents died and she had to live with her mean aunts who sent her to this school that treats kids terribly. When she grows up, she starts to live in this castle with some people and a man who likes her. Then they get married, but before they do Jane finds out he was already married and runs away. Then this man finds her and she starts to teach. A few years later, she runs away from there and goes back to the castle, but finds it burned down she went inside and one of the maids were in there. Then she goes outside and finds her long lost love old and week and blind. I loved it so much I just wanted to explane it.
