Grades 8-10 Eighteen days after the mysterious attack on New York City, 16-year-old Jesse finds a group of people who have survived the virus that turned many citizens into terrifying, bloodsucking Chasers. Though they debate whether to attempt an escape or stay in their temporary haven, the answer is clear to Jesse. Still, the outcome is unexpected. The concluding volume in the Alone trilogy, which began with Chasers (2012), picks up the narrative where it ended in Survivor (2013). Despite varied scenes of conflict, action, and reflection, the unconvincing characters and relationships drag this unsatisfying novel down.
