Bedford (Remember Me) examines the unresolved emotions behind divorce in this psychologically persuasive novel. Hilary is left by husband Eric for Pamela, and also left to raise their son, Seth. When Eric and Pam return for Seth's high school graduation with their own children in tow, the tension between Pam and Hilary is disconcertingly obvious. Bad gets worse when an unsanctioned graduation campout goes terribly wrong, and the adults are forced to get along in order to cope and respond. Bedford writes with skill and acuity. She also has a good feel for teenagers, who are part of the emotional center of this book. The Christian notes in the plot feel less organic and logical than the rest of the development, but the plot itself is based on the biblical story of Hannah in satisfyingly subtle ways. An edifying read.

Hilary has done her best to raise her son, Seth, to be a responsible young man, and she's managed to do it alone. Now Seth is looking forward to college, proud of the scholarship that he has earned. Then the unthinkable happens. At a postgraduation campout, a rock-climbing accident leaves a young woman dead and Seth's future uncertain. The return of Seth's father and his new family adds more confusion to the mix, challenging all those involved to make amends and start fresh. VERDICT Bedford's (A Morning Like This; When You Believe) multilayered tale is leisurely paced and full of engaging characters. It is sure to attract fans of Christian romances, particularly those by Catherine Palmer and Debbie Macomber.

As a divorced mother, Hilary can finally breathe a sigh of relief now that her son, Seth, is graduating from high school with a full scholarship. But her respite is short lived when teenage antics lead to heartbreaking sorrow that will forever change the course of Seths life. To make matters worse, Hilarys ex-husband has arrived with his new family, sending her into a tailspin of uncertainty. Bedford steps out on a narrative limb that is often avoided in contemporary Christian fiction by constructing a novel with authentic characters who are forced to navigate arduous family dynamics. Based loosely on the Old Testament account of Hannah, this tale will appeal to readers drawn to genuine women whose circumstances and faith push them in directions they never thought possible. By candidly unveiling the difficulties found within blended families, Bedford skillfully guides readers on a path to healing through the struggles, doubts, and faith of a woman determined to learn what it means to truly love her son.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2011, American Library Association.)
