Storer begins with a list of dog owner responsibilities to give potential puppy shoppers an idea of what they might be getting into--a relationship that can last as long as 15 years, with feeding, walking, playing, grooming, and toileting needs continuing long beyond the cute puppy phase. Chapters on each of these subjects follow, with plenty of specific advice, background information, and warnings when warranted. Sections on discipline and training begin with the basics and follow up with just-for-fun tricks and information on showing dogs in competitions. Activities, such as baking dog biscuits and concocting flea shampoo, are included. Adult books will still need to be consulted on specific topics, but this is a good overview for young dog owners.
