Spirituality of all colorations that connects us with our environment is not new, but it continues to acquire urgency, and these two titles reflect that concern. Gardener Danaan's wholly spiritual and entirely nondenominational book mixes anecdote, memoir, journal prompt, and suggested activities to create a volume that, while pleasing, is surprisinglyungrounded. Without question the most controversial portion engages "the energy of the entheogen" (they're psychogenic substances used in ritual), which Danaan recommends encountering "psychically," and one wonders if all her readers will hold back. More conventional is "Gardening Eden", in which "green" strategist and landscape designer Abbate shows how a renewed commitment to caring for the planet can bring the reader closer to an authentic and even biblical sense of communion with God.
