Grades 4-6 This spiral-bound notebook offers 25 easily replicable science experiments suitable for the home or classroompreferably under adult supervision. Young scientists can work their way through activities that provide concrete proof of such abstract concepts as mass, volume, evaporation, condensation, and distillation. Many of the experiments center around changing matter from one state to another, manipulating not only traditional gasses, liquids, and solids but also ice, plasma, and oobleck. The accessible text takes a friendly tone, providing ample background information and easily recognizable everyday examples. Cartoon illustrations, inset boxes with facts, and occasional jokes help keep readers engaged. Experimenters are asked to make predictions, try multiple variations, and record observations. Teachers who are being asked to include more hands-on and project-based learning opportunities will appreciate the thorough step-by-step directions, vocabulary terms defined within the context of corresponding experiments (as well as in the glossary), and upfront supply lists.
