Brief, easy-to-understand sentences stand out against a crisp white background, enabling emerging readers to focus on the text. On the verso page, colorful, up-close photos of the vehicles in action will captivate fans of the big machines; the images also provide visual context clues for accompanying critical thinking questions. A pronunciation guide is included within the glossary, which is especially useful for students as they build their vocabulary, as is the "Home and School Connection" feature found at the end of each volume, which caregivers can use to help reinforce literacy skills. VERDICT A well-designed series that will appeal to students, parents, and educators. Libraries can't go wrong.
