Grades 3-6 Using full-page color photographs and concise, informative writing, the Ecosystems Inside Out series offers readers an overview of biomes around the globe. Each volume begins with an introduction to the concept of ecosystems before moving on to examine specific examples within the featured biome. The wildlife, vegetation, climate, and terrain of each are joined by Eco Up Close fact boxes that highlight a specific plant or animal and Eco Focus bubbles that pose ecological questions to prompt critical thinking. Rivers and Lakes Inside Out pulls in big-name rivers such as the Nile, Amazon, and Yangtze; its lakes, while diverse in type (crater, salt, etc.), are curiously all located in the U.S., save one. Pollution, invasive species, and climate change see discussion here. Each book ends with an activity, usually requiring adult supervision; a glossary; and additional resources. A solid primer with great visual appeal.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2015, American Library Association.)
