Gr 3-5-The organization known as Dog Scouts of America (DSA) is introduced with its mission of improving the lives of dogs and their owners. The pets are trained to engage in sports and to participate in other healthy activities. The visually appealing full-color photos show canine members and various functions, and are paired with succinct descriptions of adopting a pet, joining the organization, earning badges, and supporting community-service needs. Some chapters help to raise money for various organizations, such as the Salvation Army, firefighters, and cancer research. DSA dogs participate in nursing-home activities and read-to-a-dog in public libraries to boost the confidence of children learning to read.
