Gr 5-9 -These volumes, similar in format to the titles in the -Eyewitness - series (DK), contain copious illustrations, creating instant appeal for subjects relevant to classroom curricula and popular interests. Each spread offers a brief introductory paragraph that leads to detailed captions, fact boxes, and colorful photos and/or intricate diagrams. Some of the illustrations and fonts are small and may be difficult for users to read. Each book includes a step-by-step guide to accessing the "e.guides" Web site which provides reliable and regularly updated links to other easy-to-use sites. In addition, specific keywords are noted to facilitate searches. "Insect" covers life cycles, behavior, self-defense and more; "Mammal" examines the evolution of these creatures, their subgroups, locations, and homes; and "Rock" discusses the Earth's geology -types of rocks, volcanoes, tectonic plates, erosion, etc. In "Human Body", readers can explore aspects of the body from its systems and organs to cells and nutrition and disease. Each title concludes with a classification table, table of properties, or time line followed by a fairly inclusive glossary and a small-print, comprehensive index.
