The last 33 cantos, PARADISE, are a peaceful completion of the journey, perhaps too peaceful. Heathcote Williams is solemn, his voice serious and low, as Dante and Beatrice ascend to The Empyrean. The beauty of PARADISE is subdued by Williams's quiet reverence. While a reading of THE DIVINE COMEDY is a welcome listening experience, the lack of energy on the last CDs are unequal to the soaring joy of Alighieri's vision of heaven. R.F.
