In the fifth Laws of the Blood book, several vampires descend on Las Vegas for some rest and relaxation. Charlotte is with her lover, Jebel Haven, who is wary of vampires and unsure about Charlotte's desire to change him into one. Geoff Sterling, who like Charlotte is an Enforcer (i.e., an upholder of the Laws of the Blood), has recently arrived with his mentor, the powerful vampire Valentine. But trouble is stirring in Vegas. Martina, a vampire who hates Enforcers, is plotting to bring down their entire line. Las Vegas' own Enforcer, Ben, is distracted by Morgan, a magician he wants to make his new companion. But when Ben offers Morgan some powerful vampire artifacts, Morgan turns on him, using real magic and ancient spells to conjure up a threat to vampire and human alike: a dragon.
