Mirabella Rinaldi is sitting on top of the world at the start of this dense, delicious read. Co-owner with her husband of a successful Manhattan restaurant and mother to a new baby, she seems to have it all, until she confirms her suspicions that her spouse is getting it on with their slinky mitress d'. In the ensuing downward spiral of Mira's fortunes, she sullenly attends anger-management classes, unwillingly returns to Pittsburgh to salve her wounds among family and friends, and takes deep stock of her life as she surveys the wreckage she never saw coming. And she discovers those truisms most of us eventually encounter, that love can be complicated, life isn't simple, and the heart is the only compass that truly matters. Sprinkled with mouthwatering food descriptions and recipes, Mileti's first novel plumbs the daily activities and self-reflections of a busy career woman who suddenly becomes single and directionless. Although some passages tend to meander, this succulent story will please readers of such similarly satisfying fare as Laura Esquivel's Like Water for Chocolate (1992).(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2011, American Library Association.)
