The endearing third Seasons of Lancaster romance (after A Simple Spring) follows Amish brothers Jonah and Gabe King as they win their ladies while finding their places in their community. Gabe loves Emma Lapp, a schoolteacher, but he’s also enjoying his rumspringa. Emma is concerned his wild streak will jeopardize her position and refuses to go public with their relationship. Jonah has been in love with Annie Stoltzfus since they were children, but she is fixated on his brother Adam. Now Adam and Remy (paired up in A Simple Winter) are finally getting married, and Jonah starts helping out at the Stoltzfus farm, hoping to get Annie to notice him. Gabe has to understand that his desire to break the rules is hurting the woman he loves, and Annie has to learn to accept change. Love is challenging and perplexing, but the Kings approach everything with singing and laughter, paving a smooth road to a happy ending for all. Agent: Robin Rue, Writers House.

Adam King has chosen Remy McCallister as his bride. That decision has put him at odds with the church, because Remy is not Amish, even though she has chosen to learn their ways and become baptized. Annie Stolzfus is having the hardest time of all, because she has always dreamed of marrying Adam. Adam's brother Jonah loves Annie, but she tries to set him up with her sister. Meanwhile, Gabe King is still on his rumspringa, enjoying the world that he'll have to turn away from once he's baptized. Gabe loves schoolteacher Emma Lapp, but she's afraid that his wild ways will ruin her reputation so she forces him to keep their love secret. VERDICT Filled with romantic angst, Lauer's latest series entry (after A Simple Spring and A Simple Winter) will satisfy both Amish fiction and romance fans. It should appeal to fans of Karen Kingsbury.
