Woodlands revives and continues Gunn's popular "Glenbrooke" series (the first six novels have just been released in new paperback editions). The novel finds Leah Hudson, the town's best buddy, taking notice of newcomer Seth Edwards, the nephew of one of her senior citizen friends. But Leah suffers from low self-esteem: after all, her father had wanted a son; her older sister tells her she'll never find a man with her plain face and muscular body; and she's "just Leah," named for the wife Jacob didn't want, either. Seth seems to be Leah's Prince Charming--handsome, interested, and Christian--but his evasiveness when asked personal questions makes Leah uneasy. While the give and take of their new relationship progresses realistically, romance readers will recognize the familiar plot devices; series fans will enjoy.
