Though the Amish and the Mennonites are both "plain" people, they cannot marry each other. That is the problem facing Ella Bayer, a young Mennonite woman, and Ezra Grundy, an Amish man. Ezra's father sends him to Indiana to work on an Amish farm and, disregarding her own family's wishes, Ella follows him. She finds a job in a bakery and becomes friends with an Amish farm worker, Luke. When tragedy strikes, Ella travels home and makes peace with her family. Now all that's left to decide is whether she will marry Ezra or Luke. VERDICT Clark and Gould have penned a story with fully developed characters and a strong sense of place that should engage readers of Beverly Lewis and fans of the series (The Amish Midwife; The Amish Nanny).
