Red Cullens has her life just the way she wants it. She owns Reds Hot Honky-Tonk, a San Antonio saloon with repeat customers, some of whom are like family. Her hot boyfriend, Cam, is 16 years her junior. She can come and go as she pleases. Then Red gets the call. Her divorced daughter, Bridge, otherwise known as Staff Sergeant Lujan, has been deployed to Afghanistan. Bridges mother-in-law had been taking care of her two children, Livy and Daniel, but she has had a stroke, andthere is no one to watch them. As a teenage parent, Red barely survived motherhood, and she feels nothing short of panic when her daughter gives her the big news. To further complicate matters, Cam has no idea that Red is a mother, let alone a grandmother. Morsi is a master: her characters leap to life from the pages as she skillfully balances emotional situations with hearty doses of humor. This wonderful tale of second chances and people being better than they think they are isrealistic, entertaining, and heart-lifting.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2009, American Library Association.)
