Kim

ryanl20 - I recommend this book, Kim is the main character and also my favorite character in the story. I feel very sad for Kim because his father is a hopeless, pathetic person that's addicted to alcohol, and he died at the very beginning. Leaving Kim behind, Kim was the poorest of the poor that went out begging for money everyday just to survive. I'm kind of confused in the part where he met Teshoo Lama, where he shot an arrow and when it landed, a river appeared. I'm not sure what does it mean but I think that's really cool and I really like how Kim never gives up and decide to become the disciple of Teshoo Lama. I think he's very brave and also Teshoo Lama is a very nice guy that decide to take this poor kid with him on the adventure of finding the river that'll cure anything and make everything pure again.

Grades 5-8 Rudyard Kiplings adventure novel is luminously visualized in this adaptation. The story line remains true to the original and follows Kim as he departs from his boyhood home with a Buddhist lama and embarks on adventures as a boy spy. Kumars watercolor scenes and expressions lend authentic views of Kims moods as well as his surroundings. However, this is more illustrated classic than graphic novel, as aside from the visual scenery, little is left for the images to convey that isnt spoken by the text. Accessible and continuing to be a story of interest, this book nonetheless has a place in most collections serving classics. A bit of front matter sets the storys context against the authors own life, and a bit of back matter provides interesting details about spy tools of the era.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2011, American Library Association.)
