Paul Michael's depiction of Pastor Dan Poole as an earnest, struggling pastor in a crisis of faith is delivered in tones of genuine angst. When Poole approaches Neo, his daughter's high school science teacher, to investigate leaving the pastorate for teaching, an interesting dialogue begins. Neo is portrayed with a thick Jamaican accent while Poole's conversational tone is without accent. Their discourse compares ancient, modern, and postmodern thinking, analyzing how each period views scripture. The dialogue is overflowing with personal theology outside the biblical construct. Michael's performance is excellent, but fundamental Christians may question McLaren's view of Christianity. G.D.W. (c) AudioFile 2007, Portland, Maine
