Entrepreneurial consultant Goddess explicates in this hopeful debut her theories on how to unleash one’s purpose and find success. Divided into three sections corresponding to the book’s subtitle, Goddess mines her own early career as a singer, as well as stories of her clients to provide concise advice on building the self-awareness necessary to recognize and pursue one’s “calling.” With exercises and case studies, she helps readers accept responsibility for limiting beliefs in order to move toward purpose. Four behaviors, she posits, keep one’s calling at bay: complaining, blaming/judging, justifying, and avoiding. She recommends doing a “Belief Inventory,” to understand one’s inner drive, and provides weekly routines and mantras to help readers “elevate what it means to be a deeply fulfilled, well-paid, and happily engaged citizen of the world.” The uplifting prose reads like a conversation with a life coach, and each chapter reinforces Goddess’s concepts with worksheets and questions. This easily implemented work will help anyone develop concrete goals and the tactics to see them through.

Goddess, founder of entrepreneurial life coach firm Move the Crowd, shares her method for digging deep to find your true calling. Dividing the book into three parts, she uses examples from her own life and from her clients' experiences to illustrate her approach. In step one, she discusses discerning and then staying true to one's life purpose. Step two has readers examine their ideas about capitalism and learn to market their gifts, their dharma, to contribute to the common good?in her words, to exemplify the age of the citizen. Step three has readers pull together the previous steps to reach their full potential. She emphasizes that every person has a calling and suggests how to use that calling to benefit both self and society. Her formula for success is L3: Live, Love, and Lead. Each chapter has work sheets to help readers apply the method to their own situations. Entrepreneurs, readers looking for a career change, and other seekers may find her message, a blend of self-help and business advice, inspirational.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2019, American Library Association.)
