Audrey Coyne, recent Yale law graduate, has her heart set on a Supreme Court clerkship. When she lands a position assisting the Honorable Christina Wong Stinson of the U.S. Court of Appeals, she is poised to achieve that dream. Like Audrey, Judge Stinson is conservative, intelligent, and very determined, and, also like Audrey, she's part Asian American, the daughter of immigrants. Audrey is thrilled to be working with her role model, and as the cases roll in, she finds herself working harder than she ever imagined, with laudable results. Then one of the nine justices dies, and her boss makes the short list for a SCOTUS nomination, bringing Audrey's goal within reach. But with the pressure on, she sees another side of Judge Stinson and begins questioning the motives that drive her beloved mentor. Faced with an ethical dilemma, will Audrey choose morality over success? Informative and funny, Lat's writing mixes heavy legal jargon with vapid fashion chatter and conservative-leaning social commentary. Sure to appeal to those with an interest in current judicial issues.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2014, American Library Association.)
