The author, an associate at the consulting firm of McKinsey & Co. from 1989 to 1992, has two goals: communicate the skills and techniques that make McKinsey so successful, and provide a sense of what it's like to work at McKinsey. The book describes the McKinsey way of selling its solutions to business problems. The company combines high-quality analysis of the components of the problem with an aggressive attitude toward fact gathering. Raisel also offers advice on how to survive as an employee at McKinsey, including tips on getting a job there and finding a path to success within the firm. The book is written for several audiences, including business executives and other consultants, all to herald the McKinsey expertise, and as recruiting information for those seeking jobs. The author provides effective public relations for McKinsey with this glowing account of the McKinsey ethic, and he is likely to have had the firm's blessing.
