Caroline, adopted after her mother's suicide, had to postpone her dreams of being a " National Geographic" photographer to raise her two younger siblings after their beloved parents' deaths. Now, with freedom again in reach, Caroline meets Dr. Mick Larsen, a psychiatrist who has abandoned his medical career for farming. Hopes and dreams collide when Caroline and Mick fall in love despite their clear and conflicting goals. Crandall's complex characters, intricate relationships, realistic conflicts, and fine sense of place make this a good bet for readers of Deborah Smith and Jodi Picoult.
