This work by business consultant Blanchard and former Twitter executive Diaz-Ortiz follows the same brief chapter/personal story line style of Blanchard and Spencer Johnson's The New One Minute Manager. All of the chapters are fewer than ten pages. Each concludes with a "One Minute Insights" section that presents practical and actionable steps one can take from the principles touched on in the chapter. The first-person POV makes the content personal and offers a sense of the emotions and thoughts that go into the mentoring process. Each vignette gives a glimpse into the details of how the mentor/mentee relationship could potentially develop. One downside is that the narrative ramps up and then presents just one avenue for how a mentoring scenario might play out. VERDICT A quick read that covers the relevant issues in a manner that anyone with a short amount of time can easily grasp. While mainly presented from a business perspective and for that audience, any individual or library may acquire this book as the most basic introduction to the topic of mentorship.--Mark Hanson, Maranatha Baptist Univ.
