Quinn’s fourth and final Children of the Mist romance (after Tamed by a Highlander) brings 1688 England to life, complete with espionage, treachery, uprisings. Colin MacGregor, a supporter of the Catholic king, James Stuart, infiltrates Dartmouth Castle, pretending to be a supporter of William of Orange. Colin, a seasoned warrior, is unprepared for his attraction to Lady Gillian Dearly, the cousin of the lord of Dartmouth. Colin’s interaction with Gillian and her young son, Edmund, is laced with emotion and causes Colin to question his mission as a spy, as does his slow realization that James is as guilty of wrongdoing as William. Readers will adore Gillian, a woman who has honed her survival techniques in a society where women had few rights.
