When most knitters think of northern European knitting, they think of Fair Isle color work, often in the form of mittens or ski sweaters. While Guy, a knitwear designer who's written knitting books for children, includes a good amount of color work, she also expands knitters' notion of what northern European knitting is. The patterns are grouped by country, and many use fibers or yarns native to each region (sources for acquiring the yarn are also included). While many of the patterns are best attempted by advanced knitters, there are a few smaller garments that could provide a nice introduction to color work for newer knitters.
