Here Bjergso of the Danish brewing company Mikkeller--its name combines Bjergso's first name with his friend and early brewing partner's surname, Keller--shares a basic overview of beer history, types, ingredients, and brewing. Knowledgeable brewers will anticipate testing one of the 25 Mikkeller recipes, from Beer Geek Bacon (a smoked stout with coffee) to Draft Bear (an imperial pilsner). The pairings section provides general instruction and is complemented by five food recipes. The book ends with retailer and beer bar suggestions (mostly outside the United States), a guide to sources, and an index. With journalist Pang, Bjergso has created a beautiful book for beer connoisseurs. The universal information about brewing, tasting, and enjoying beer is clearly presented through the book's design, photography, and illustrations. VERDICT The geographical focus and primary attention to Mikkeller's brews may limit the appeal to an audience of ardent beer enthusiasts.--Meagan Storey, Virginia Beach
