It's hard to imagine a better book on eye care--or one with a more accurate title. An ophthalmologist holding several patents on artificial corneas, Dr. Abel explains new drugs and surgical techniques cogently. However, he also incorporates nutritional advice, herbal therapies, and treatments from Chinese and Indian medical traditions, arguing for treating the eye as part of the entire body. Jeff Riggenbach tailors his delivery to match Abel's prose. He's enthusiastic but careful to slow his pace when dealing with new terminology or concepts. There is one weakness to the book in audiobook format. The print version of the book includes many reference tables, and those are now hard to use. G.T.B. (c) AudioFile 2003, Portland, Maine
