Wollstonecraft wrote this as a follow-up to A Vindication of the Rights of Men, which appeared two years earlier in 1790. That piece itself was an answer to Edmund Burke's Reflections on the Revolution in France. Here she pleads for equality among the sexes and for women to be judged on their merits, not their marriages. This edition contains a new chronology, and expanded notes, among other extras.
