With interfaith marriages growing rapidly, finding a meaningful way for all family members to observe Passover is important. Since the central message of the holiday is freedom, it is relevant to all. Cokie Roberts, a Catholic, and her husband, Steve, a Jew, have created a Haggadah that all can use and understand. They include an explanation of the significance of Passover and the symbolic objects and food used in the celebration, a script for a seder with instructions for the rituals and prayers in Hebrew and English, advice on preparing for the meal, suggested childrens activities, recipes, and songs. The text for the seder and its explanations are easy to understand and respectful of the Jewish tradition. The authors do not try to turn Passover into a Christian holiday, but they explain why it has meaning for Christians. The songs include both traditional Passover songs, such as Had Gadya, and Negro spirituals, such as Go Down Moses. An excellent resource for interfaith families and anyone who needs a basic introduction to Passover traditions.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2011, American Library Association.)
