The media is cluttered with financial market commentators offering a dizzying array of investment advice and insights. For a behind-the-scenes look at financial forecasting, Brown, author of The Reformed Broker blog, and Macke, of Yahoo Finance, talked to several influential investors and market pundits in an effort to demystify the process. Their first entry is an interview with Jim Rogers, the creator of the first financial television show. Among others they interviewed are Jim Cramer of Mad Money, who talks about the dynamics of his television show and his clash with Jon Stewart on The Daily Show; Henry Boldget, of Business Insider, recalling his coverage of the Martha Stewart trial; and Ben Stein offering his opinions on major market players, from Warren Buffett to former Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke. Other commentators ponder the hype (and the motivations behind it) so essential to the media but less important for sound investment decisions and the growing influence of social media. Investors interested in gaining insights into the world of investment advice will appreciate this frank look at market forecasting.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2014, American Library Association.)
